Vocabulary lesson: The family

Nota: married: casado, male: masculino, female: femenino, children: hijos. 

Aquí tenéis tenéis unas pocas palabras más con su traducción:

• grandparents: abuelos
• parents: padres
• grandchildren: nietos
• husband: marido
• wife: esposa
• father in law: suegro
• mother in law: suegra
• parents in law: suegros
• brother in law: cuñado
• daughter in law: nuera

Como podéis ver, la expresión "in law" es parecida a la de español "político", de manera que por ejemplo, suegra, o madre política, se dice mother in law.

The verb To Be

El verbo TO BE es el primero que aprendemos normalmente. Es muy importante, porque nos permite expresar muchas cosas, por ejemplo información personal.
Normalmente se traduce en español por los verbos "ser" o "estar", según la frase donde esté.

Por ejemplo: I am from Spain = Soy de España.   I am at school = Estoy en el colegio

También se usa para decir la edad. En este caso se tiene que traducir por "tener".

Por ejemplo: He is seventeen years old = Tiene diecisiete años.

Lo mismo pasa cuando lo usamos para expresar sensaciones, como el hambre, la sed o la temperatura:

 I'm hungry = Tengo hambre.

She's thirsty = Tiene sed.

Are you cold? = ¿Tienes frío? 

Incluso, cuando hablamos del tiempo atmosférico, se puede traducir por "hacer":

It's hot = Hace calor

It's sunny = Hace sol

It's windy = Hace viento. 

Pronombres personales-sujeto

Primero tenemos que decir que un pronombre personal es una palabra que sirve para nombrar a personas, animales o cosas.

Por ejemplo, cuando digo "yo" (1ª persona singular) me estoy refiriendo a mí mismo. Si digo "tú" (2ª persona singular) me refiero a la persona con quien estoy hablando, etc.

A veces usamos los pronombres para sustituir a una o varias palabras.

Por ejemplo, en vez de decir "María"(3ª persona singular femenino) podemos decir "ella", o en vez de decir "mis padres"(3ª persona del plural) podemos decir "ellos".
